So, I didn’t take my kids to the Selena Gomez concert last night. My daughter saw the cover of the paper this morning and said, “What! Selena Gomez was here!?” I didn’t do it on purpose, I swear. I actually didn’t know la Gomez was here, but now I’m thankful I live in a bubble. Since we missed Selena, I’ll be taking the kids to some shows in November. We are lucky to have such talent and quality here in Calgary. Here are my picks for November for the whole family to enjoy:
1) Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra Presents: Winter Solstice (A Rocky Mountain Fairytale). Narrated by the author, Samantha Whalen Kotkas. Live orchestral music enhances the story. I have been at another presentation by this author, and she is a great storyteller. If your kids like fairies, they will definitely enjoy this show. Make sure to arrive earlier for the instrument petting zoo, in which kids can try various musical instruments and chat with some of the orchestra players. SUN. NOV. 13TH PETTING ZOO: 2PM SHOW: 3PM. Click on the link for more information.
2) Decidedly Jazz Presents: The Great Jazz History Mystery. This show is for kids, which is a first for this high quality dance company. One doesn’t often associate sophisticated jazz with kids shows, so I am really curious about what they have in store. I think it’s a great opportunity to expose the kids to this genre of music and dance. Looking forward to it! NOV. 16-20th. Click on the link for more information.
3)Alberta Theatre Projects Presents: The Wizard of Oz (musical.) We’ve watched the movie about a dozen times, but it never gets tired. ”Surrender Dorothy!” I guess we’ll keep getting better at reciting all the lines in unison. Can’t miss this one, plus ATP puts on quality productions. NOV. 23-DEC. 31st. Click on the link for more information.
There you have it. Three cultural events to warm up your November days, and to add some spice and variety to your family’s activities. Please comment back about your experiences, or if I’ve missed any other great events!
p.s. My calendar will be up and running again soon.
